Meet Ashdin
Where to begin about Ashdin? Let's start with his name--a derivative of the name "Ashwin" meaning strong. We knew from before he was born that he was strong. After he was born, each day it became more and more clear that he was not only strong for himself, but he made Jason and I stronger. And, like everything about Ashdin, there is deeper meaning. As my Manhar fua (uncle) so brilliantly explained to me, Ashdin not only comes from a word meaning
"strong", it has a literal translation as well. It means "enjoyment and wealth every day". His bright smile, warm spirit & rich personality have proven that his name was the right name for him.
We remember all of Ashdin's milestones, because there was never an expectation of what he would be able to do. He has surprised us at every turn of the corner. Every challenge he has taken on, he has done with an unwaivering determination while still knowing his limits. Ashdin's first steps were running. This just shows how Ashdin’s strong will and strong sense of belief, overcame the doctors saying he may never walk.
Ashdin’s Arthrogryposis does not define him, but it challenges
him every day and he tackles it head on. Every new setting he has to navigate and every
activity he has to modify to complete, he has not allowed his
disability to be a barrier. He was born with a challenge, but was also blessed with
belief, strength, confidence and intelligence. His mental strength
is inspiring and has allowed him to succeed in all that he strives
to accomplish.
Our family has been so fortunate to have Ashdin under the care
of world reknown specialists in Arthrogryposis, at a facility so
generous as to operate exclusively on private donation. Without
his medical correction, Ashdin’s challenges would be
significantly greater. Thanks to the outstanding care and
excellence in medicine provided to him by the Doctors and team
at Philadelphia Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Ashdin’s dreams
have and will continue to come true.
